Civil Aviation Resources Network, October 24, 2025: Reuters reports that Brunei's Civil Aviation Authority released new regulations on Thursday (October 23), allowing the country's airlines to operate Chinese-made passenger aircraft. This is good news for COMAC.
COMAC aims to compete with established aircraft manufacturers such as Airbus, Boeing, and Embraer. Currently, international airlines in countries such as Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, and Indonesia are using COMAC's C909 aircraft.
Brunei startup GallopAir is working to allow Brunei to allow its domestic airlines to operate Chinese-made passenger aircraft. GallopAir has already placed an order for C909 aircraft.
GallopAir has ordered 15 C909 and 15 C919 aircraft for 2023, becoming the first non-Chinese airline to order C919 aircraft.
Previously, Brunei's Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) only allowed domestic airlines to operate Boeing, Airbus, and Embraer aircraft with design certification from regulators in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Brazil.
A revised document released by the Brunei Civil Aviation Authority on Thursday showed that the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) had been added to the list.
In April, Vietnam added the CAAC to its list of approved aviation regulators.
