According to Hong Kong Airport, the salvage team lifted the tail of the crashed cargo plane at 10:41 p.m. on October 24th and placed it on a pontoon for transfer to the Aircraft Accident Investigation Agency (CAIA). This includes retrieving the flight recorders, commonly known as black boxes.

The CAIA stated that the two black boxes, the flight data recorder and the cockpit voice recorder, were successfully retrieved from the wreckage late that night. Both black boxes were submerged in water. The CAIA stated that the black boxes have been sent to a laboratory for preliminary examination to determine the next steps.

During the daytime of the 24th, the salvage vessel lifted one of the crashed cargo plane's engines and landing gear from the sea.

news-1-1

Two specialized salvage vessels are continuing their work in the waters off Hong Kong International Airport's North Runway. The salvage operation began on the 24th and will continue for several days. Flight operations at Hong Kong International Airport have remained normal since the start of the work.

Due to the proximity of the salvage vessels to the North Runway, the giant cranes they were equipped with exceeded their operating height, necessitating the temporary closure of the North Runway.

At 3:53 a.m. on October 20th, cargo flight UAE9788, arriving from Dubai with four crew members on board, overran the North Runway after landing, broke through the runway fence, and crashed into the sea, breaking into several pieces. During the collision, the aircraft collided with a ground handling vehicle, killing two people on board.
