Civil Aviation Resources Network, August 03, 2024: According to Avherald, on July 28, local time, a cargo plane of Atlas Air had a burning smell in the cabin during the flight, and the flight made an emergency landing in Sapporo, Japan.
It is reported that the aircraft involved was a Boeing 747-400F (registration number N487MC), which was operating flight 5Y8193 that day. It was originally scheduled to fly from Seoul, South Korea to Anchorage, Alaska, USA, with 4 crew members on board.
When the plane was flying at an altitude of about 340 nautical miles east of Sapporo, the crew reported that they smelled a burning smell on the plane and decided to change the route to Sapporo. About an hour later, the plane landed safely on runway 19L of Sapporo Chitose Airport. Emergency service personnel did not find any signs of fire or smoke, and no one was injured.
It is reported that the plane remained at Sapporo Airport about 41 hours after landing.
