According to foreign media reports, Boeing is developing a new narrow-body aircraft that will eventually replace the 737 MAX.

According to the Wall Street Journal, people familiar with the matter said Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg held discussions with Rolls-Royce about new engines earlier this year.

Ortberg has appointed a new senior product manager for Boeing's commercial airplanes business, whose previous role was overseeing the development of new aircraft.

People familiar with the matter said Boeing is also designing the new aircraft's cockpit. The design is in the early stages, and plans are still being finalized.

A Boeing spokesperson said the team remains focused on its recovery plan, including delivering nearly 6,000 existing orders and certifying the 737-7, 737-10, and 777-9. "At the same time, as we have done for decades, our team is assessing market demand, advancing key technology development, and improving our financial performance so we are ready to launch new products when the time is right."
