The Afghan government's nationwide internet shutdown has paralyzed Afghanistan's major airports.
According to reports, the Afghan government began gradually shutting down fiber optic networks nationwide on September 15, affecting the capital, Kabul, on September 29.
Communications within Afghanistan have been severely impacted, affecting basic services such as banking and payments.
Sources at Kabul Airport reported that all flights have been canceled due to the internet outage. Local residents reported that all flights at Kabul Airport have been canceled since the evening of September 29. Kabul Airport is "almost empty," with no signs of arriving or departing aircraft.
Flightradar24 shows that a small number of inbound and outbound flights at Kabul Airport on September 30 were marked as canceled, with the status of many more flights marked as "unknown."
A passenger scheduled to fly to Kabul International Airport on September 30 was told that flights would not be available until October 2 at the earliest.
It is unclear how long the communication outage will last.
