According to Al Jazeera, Israel launched an attack on Iran on Saturday, prompting the Israeli Defense Minister to declare a nationwide state of emergency.
The announcement by Defense Minister Israel Katz came as an explosion and thick smoke billowed from downtown Tehran, the Iranian capital.
Iranian state television confirmed the explosion but provided no further details.
Meanwhile, sirens sounded across Israel.
The Israel Airports Authority stated that it has closed Israeli airspace and suspended all civilian flights, urging the public not to travel to Israeli airports. The Authority also stated that flights to and from Israel will resume as soon as the security situation allows.
Foreign airlines have reportedly suspended flights to Israel and are returning to their home countries. Due to the airspace closure, flights are avoiding Tel Aviv and Amman.

Meanwhile, Iran also announced a 6-hour airspace closure. Iran issued a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) stating that the Tehran Flight Information Region (FIR) would be closed from 06:30 to 12:00 on February 28, prohibiting all air traffic.
