For many pilots and flight attendants, finding time to buy their daily Starbucks coffee amidst their busy schedules has become a crucial ritual. However, British Airways' newly revised uniform regulations, which explicitly prohibit crew members from consuming coffee in public, are poised to spark controversy.

The new directive prohibits crew members from consuming any beverages in public except water, and even that must be consumed "discreetly."

Other beverages, such as coffee and soda, will only be permitted while seated in designated lounges or food service areas-a rule that could lead to severe caffeine shortages for sleep-deprived and jet-lagged pilots and flight attendants.

These guidelines appear in British Airways' updated appearance guidelines, which cover everything from approved nail polish and lipstick shades to crew hairstyles and even permitted eyewear.

British Airways has asked crew members to "buy in" to the new guidelines, which include a ban on coffee as part of the airline's "Creating a Better Workplace."
