According to the South African Airport Company, the new airport is tentatively named Cape Winelands Airport, which is located 13 kilometers northeast of Durbanville in Cape Town.

According to Business Technology, the airport was formerly known as Phisantkraal Airport and belonged to the South African Air Force, but became privately owned in 1993.

Currently, Cape Winelands Airport is a general aviation facility that provides flight training, and private and corporate aircraft occasionally use the airport for passenger transport. At present, the airport is working to be transformed into an international commercial airport.

According to the construction plan, the construction works include expanding and realigning the main runway to 3,500 meters, building a passenger terminal that can accommodate more than 5 million passengers per year, including state-of-the-art handling facilities, using the latest technology to provide modern solutions for boarding, baggage handling and security. The new airport will provide scheduled flights for domestic and international passenger and cargo transportation in South Africa.

The airport development plan successfully incorporates the region's wine heritage, and vineyards have become part of the landscape of the new airport.

If all approvals are obtained, the airport expansion project is expected to start early next year. At present, the expansion project is undergoing multiple legislative procedures.
