On August 6, Cathay Pacific Airways announced an additional order for 14 777-9 aircraft, bringing the airline's total order for the world's largest twin-engine airliner to 35.

The 777-9 is designed to deliver an average 20% lower fuel consumption and emissions, and 40% lower noise than the aircraft it replaces, enabling Cathay Pacific to efficiently meet growing air travel demand in key markets around the world.

We plan to expand and renew our fleet with additional 777-9 aircraft, allowing us to continue our rich history of connecting the world to our Hong Kong hub. Cathay Pacific aims to further strengthen its growing partnership with Boeing and leverage the world-class capabilities of the new 777-9 as we strive to become the world's best premium airline. - Lin Shaobo, Cathay Pacific Group Chief Executive

Over the past 30 years, Cathay Pacific has developed its global route network with the Boeing 777 family. The addition of the latest 777-9 will further reduce operating costs as it modernizes the fleet and expands passenger and cargo operations on long-haul and ultra-long-haul routes. "We are proud to support Cathay Pacific's continued leadership as one of the world's top airlines with the introduction of the 777-9 as their future flagship," said Brad McMullen, senior vice president of Commercial Sales and Marketing at Boeing. "This latest order demonstrates the value of the 777-9 and will further strengthen Cathay Pacific's legacy of providing exceptional comfort, convenience and connectivity to its passengers for many years to come."

With a range of 7,295 nautical miles (13,510 kilometers), the 777-9 will enable Cathay Pacific to carry passengers non-stop between Hong Kong and its global long-haul destinations.

To date, customers around the world have placed orders for more than 550 777X airplanes.
