On June 26, China Eastern Airlines announced that it had signed a purchase agreement with Airbus in Shanghai, China, for 25 A330NEO series aircraft. The aircraft are scheduled for delivery in batches between 2029 and 2033.
The total list price of the aircraft is approximately US$9.35 billion, which, based on the exchange rate published by the People's Bank of China on the date of signing the agreement (1 US dollar = 6.8166 RMB), is approximately RMB 63.735 billion.
China Eastern stated that based on its confidence in the future development of my country's civil aviation industry and the company's overall fleet planning, it plans to introduce 25 A330NEO series aircraft. The newly introduced A330NEO series aircraft are upgraded versions of the A330CEO series, featuring high aspect ratio wings, optimized aerodynamic design, high bypass ratio engines, and a more efficient cabin layout. Compared to the previous generation, fuel consumption per seat is significantly reduced, and the aircraft shares high commonality with the company's existing A330CEO series fleet. This will help the company optimize its fleet structure and route network, improve operational and service quality, reduce unit operating costs, and contribute to the company and the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) in achieving their "dual carbon" goals.
Currently and for some time to come, my country's civil aviation industry will remain in a strategic growth phase. With the deepening of the "Belt and Road" initiative and the "Air Silk Road," as well as the continued expansion of high-level opening-up, the international route market will experience steady growth. To better implement the company's strategic plan of "flying further afield, flying internationally, and flying into emerging markets," the newly introduced A330NEO series aircraft will primarily be used to continuously increase intercontinental destinations and flight frequency at Shanghai Pudong International Airport, creating a six-in, six-out flight wave. This will leverage Shanghai Pudong's role as an intercontinental transit hub, thereby strengthening the company's control in key markets and achieving increased market share and revenue.
The order is scheduled for delivery in batches from 2029 to 2033, with 4 aircraft planned for delivery in 2029, 5 in 2030, 6 in 2031, 7 in 2032, and 3 in 2033.
