Civil Aviation Resources Network, October 17, 2025: On October 15, 2025, Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport achieved further success in its international aviation hub development, with cumulative passenger throughput exceeding 40 million in 2025, reaching the target nine days ahead of schedule compared to 2024.
Since the beginning of this year, Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport has focused on developing strategic intercontinental routes and routes to countries along the Belt and Road Initiative and the RCEP. It has newly resumed passenger services to Auckland, Tokyo, Kuching, and Kaohsiung, and increased service to popular routes such as Seoul, Osaka, Bangkok, Jakarta, and Hong Kong. Currently, the airport operates 35 international (regional) passenger routes, with nearly 190 flights per week. This has essentially established a comprehensive route network covering North America, Europe, Oceania, the Middle East, Japan, South Korea, and Southeast Asia. New passenger routes will soon be added to Brussels, Sabah, and Yangon, and increased service to Madrid, Ho Chi Minh City, and Hanoi, further enriching cross-border travel options for passengers.
International (regional) passenger volume and the number of foreign nationals entering the country have seen rapid growth. From January to September 2025, Chongqing Jiangbei Airport handled 1.6632 million international (regional) passengers, a year-on-year increase of 28.99%, ranking first among China's top ten airports in terms of growth rate. Of these, 457,600 were international (regional) transit passengers, a year-on-year increase of 46.7%, with the proportion of transit passengers increasing to 27.52%. During the same period, 233,000 foreign nationals directly entered Chongqing through its air ports, a year-on-year increase of 99.7%. The top five countries of origin were Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, South Korea, and Indonesia.
International through-flight services have also achieved remarkable results. Following the launch of the Chongqing-Seattle through-flight service on August 28, 2025, the service now covers 13 international routes in Chongqing operated by Hainan Airlines, Tianjin Airlines, Air China, and Xiamen Airlines (including key cities such as London, Paris, and Rome), bringing intercontinental route coverage to 100%. Passengers transiting through entry and exit can enjoy a "one-stop ticket, direct baggage delivery" service throughout their entire journey, eliminating the need to collect luggage mid-flight. As of September 30, 2025, this service has facilitated 2,032 international through-trip flights, served 121,427 passengers, and handled 139,927 pieces of luggage, steadily increasing its scale and service quality.
Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport has successfully launched eight air express routes, including the Chongqing-Beijing, Chongqing-Xingxing, Chongqing-Shanghai, and Chongqing-Guangzhou-Shenzhen routes, centered around the "Chongqing Express" trunk route network. These routes have boosted average daily flights from Chongqing to key cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen to over 25 flights each, establishing a convenient air corridor connecting the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the Yangtze River Delta, the Greater Bay Area, the Jiaodong Peninsula, the southeast coast, and the Hainan Free Trade Port. Notably, the boarding cut-off time for some premium express flights has been shortened to 30 minutes before scheduled departure. All Chongqing-Beijing flights now have a 30-minute boarding cut-off time, further improving passenger travel efficiency and route quality.
In addition, Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport also focuses on promoting the construction of the transit channel "entering Xinjiang, Tibet and going to Yunnan", and makes efforts from the dimensions of route network optimization, MCT (airport shortest connection time) compression, multimodal transport coordination, etc. to build a more complete transit service system. The cross-airline transit "safe transfer" refund and change product has been launched online to effectively reduce the transit costs of passengers and improve the transit service experience. From January to September 2025, the transit throughput of Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport reached 3.056 million passengers, a year-on-year increase of 6.55%. At the same time, Jiangbei Airport has established a cross-airline coordination mechanism with various airlines and set up a special working group to promote the full implementation of the three cross-transit services of "cross-airlines, cross-terminals, and cross-ground service agents", and strengthen cooperation in transit process optimization, transit service guarantee, transit product innovation, etc., to jointly promote the construction of Jiangbei Airport's transit capacity system.
