Civil Aviation Resources Network, July 16, 2025: According to Aviation A2Z, on July 14, Emirates Airlines (EK) flight EK382 from Dubai International Airport (DXB) to Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) unexpectedly diverted to Kaohsiung International Airport (KHH) in Taiwan.
The Boeing 777-31H(ER) aircraft with the registration number A6-EPU of Emirates Airlines was forced to abandon the approach after multiple landing attempts at Hong Kong Airport, and finally diverted to Taiwan for operational and safety reasons.
The EK382 flight was a long-distance flight from Dubai to Hong Kong, and encountered major challenges during the arrival phase. According to flight data, the aircraft made at least two landing attempts at Hong Kong Airport, both of which failed.
Flight tracking images show that the aircraft circled in the Pearl River Delta region until the decision to divert was made.
While there are unconfirmed reports that the aircraft diverted because of a medical emergency on board, some aviation observers have pointed out that weather conditions, especially sustained strong winds with wind speeds of about 12 knots, may make it difficult for the aircraft to land.
There is speculation that Emirates chose to divert to avoid further risk or potential scrutiny of operational decisions, as was the case in the 2023 Singapore runway overrun incident.
The Emirates aircraft ultimately landed safely at Kaohsiung International Airport in Taiwan. Emirates has not disclosed any official details about the medical emergency or specific weather challenges.
