Ethiopian Airlines CEO Mesfin Tasew said recently that the company has signed an agreement to design Africa's largest airport.
The new airport is about 40 kilometers away from the capital Addis Ababa. The new airport will have four runways, with a designed annual throughput of 100 million passengers and can accommodate 270 aircraft.
The new airport is scheduled to be completed in 2029.
Mesfin Tasew said that after the completion of the first phase, it will meet the demand of 60 million passengers per year, and after the completion of the second phase, the airport's annual handling capacity will exceed 100 million passengers.
