Hangzhou Airport opens the country’s first fifth-freedom rights Oceania passenger route
According to CCTV News, at around 10 a.m. on November 5, the maiden flight ceremony of Zhejiang Province’s first fifth-freedom passenger route was held at the T4 terminal of Xiaoshan Airport. This is also the country’s first fifth-freedom rights Oceania passenger route.

Fifth freedom rights, or third-country transportation rights, refers to the right for airlines of a country or region to stop and load passengers and cargo in a third country while operating a certain international route. It is hailed by the aviation industry as "the most "Abundant and most economically significant" air rights are one of the important ways to expand the international route network and develop the global market. They are also an important symbol to measure the level of regional opening up and business environment.
On December 30, 2021, Hangzhou Airport opened the first fifth-freedom rights cargo route in Zhejiang Province. This fifth-freedom rights route is a passenger route, adding overseas "pick-up points" to realize the three major routes of Hangzhou, Sydney and Auckland. The hub allows for free loading and unloading of passengers and cargo, effectively increasing route diversity and profitability. Passengers can choose to fly directly from Hangzhou to Auckland or fly to Sydney via Auckland on Thursdays and Sundays. They can also fly directly from Hangzhou to Sydney or fly to Auckland via Sydney on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
