Civil Aviation Resources Network, February 12, 2025: According to Reuters, Thomas Woldbye, CEO of London Heathrow Airport, said that the airport plans to submit a proposal for the construction of a third runway to the British government this summer.
UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves said last month that the British government will support the construction of a new runway at Heathrow Airport to promote trade and economic growth.
Woldbye will also point out that Heathrow Airport will consult with stakeholders including airlines and local communities before finalizing the plan, and the project can only be advanced if it meets noise, air quality and emission standards. Woldbye has previously stated that the third runway could be put into operation as early as 2035.
Although the British government has expressed support, the plan still faces many challenges, including financing issues, and many obstacles need to be overcome.
