According to Bloomberg, Hong Kong Airlines is seeking to introduce second-hand Boeing 787 aircraft to resume long-haul routes to North America.
On August 22, Hong Kong Airlines Chairman Sun Jianfeng said in an interview with Bloomberg that Hong Kong Airlines hopes to introduce at least three Boeing 787 aircraft to restart flights to North America in 2025.
Hong Kong Airlines is evaluating new routes to Vancouver, Toronto, Los Angeles and Seattle.
It is understood that Hong Kong Airlines opened San Francisco routes in 2016 and Vancouver and Los Angeles routes in 2017. Due to financial problems, Hong Kong Airlines suspended these routes in February 2020 and subsequently sold A350 aircraft used for intercontinental routes.
Recently, Hong Kong Airlines announced that it will officially resume direct flights between Hong Kong and the Gold Coast of Australia on January 17, 2025.
The route will operate seasonally from January 17 to February 15, 2025, providing four flights per week for five weeks, covering the Lunar New Year holiday. The flight will be operated by an A330 wide-body aircraft, providing approximately 6,000 seats.
