Italian Infrastructure Minister Matteo Salvini stated that the Italian government will ban airport strikes during the Milan Winter Olympics to prevent transportation disruptions during this major international event.
Italian labor unions plan strikes on February 16th and March 7th over labor agreement issues and have rejected government calls to postpone the strikes to avoid conflict with the Olympics.
The Winter Olympics opened on February 7th (Beijing time) and will run until February 23rd. The Winter Paralympics will be held from March 6th to 15th.
Salvini acknowledged the unions' demands but insisted that the smooth running of the Olympics is the top priority. He called for more negotiations to end the labor dispute.
