According to the "Oriental Daily" report, Sarawak State Transportation Minister Li Jingsheng confirmed that the Malaysia Airlines plane flying from Kuala Lumpur to Miri was initially suspected to have a flap failure, which caused the plane to hover over the airport for 34 minutes before landing safely. A spokesman for the Miri Fire Department said that personnel at the Miri Airport received a report at 11:21 am on Saturday that a Boeing 737 passenger plane was suspected to be malfunctioning and the flaps could not be opened. The Fire Department immediately dispatched personnel to the airport. The spokesperson pointed out that after the plane arrived at Miri Airport, it tried to land several times, but all failed. Fortunately, it finally landed smoothly.
The spokesperson revealed that the plane was carrying 109 passengers and crew members at the time, and no one was injured in the incident.
