On December 12, 2025, Civil Aviation Resource Network reported that, according to foreign media reports, on December 11 local time, due to a nationwide strike in Portugal, several airlines canceled flights and adjusted flight schedules.
The strike, organized by Portugal's two major labor unions, CGTP and UGT, paralyzed public services, transportation, and air travel. The strike aims to oppose the government's proposed labor reforms, which the unions believe threaten workers' rights and job security.
The strike has severely disrupted operations at Lisbon and Porto airports, with widespread delays and cancellations of both international and domestic flights.
Several airlines, including Etihad Airways, were directly affected. Etihad Airways announced the cancellation of its Abu Dhabi-Lisbon flight on December 11 in response to the large-scale strike.
Other affected airlines include TAP Air Portugal, Ryanair, easyJet, and Azores, all of which were forced to adjust their flight schedules.
The situation was further exacerbated by the strike announced by SNPVAC, the civil aviation union representing more than 5,000 cabin crew members.
Emirates also cancelled all scheduled flights to and from Lisbon that day.
