On December 12, 2025, Civil Aviation Resource Network reported that AirAsia recently made a groundbreaking update to its uniform policy, allowing Muslim female flight attendants to wear headscarves in their formal attire. This change marks a significant shift from AirAsia's nearly 25-year-old uniform policy. This decision, in line with Malaysian cultural customs, is expected to take effect during Ramadan 2026 (around February 18th or 19th).

This move is a response to long-standing feedback from AirAsia employees and the public. The new uniforms, which will be paired with headscarves, will include both a headscarf and trousers, providing employees with a more dignified and culturally respectful alternative.

For nearly 25 years, AirAsia flight attendants were recognizable in bright red uniforms, paired with short skirts, black stockings, and open-collar shirts. This bold and striking design had become synonymous with the AirAsia brand and was a key visual element of AirAsia's brand image in the Asia-Pacific region for many years.

However, as AirAsia has grown and its route network has expanded to more diverse destinations... Feedback from female employees and the public indicates that AirAsia needs to make changes.
