Civil Aviation Resources Network, November 4, 2024: According to the South China Morning Post, data shows that international flights to and from China are expected to increase by nearly 31% year-on-year between late October 2024 and March 2025, with Asian destinations and Chinese airlines contributing the most.
According to data from British aviation analysis company OAG, the number of flights to and from China is expected to increase by nearly 40,000 flights from late October this year to March next year compared with the same period last year, reaching 168,871 flights. OAG data shows that seat capacity may also increase by 29% to 35.2 million.
OAG said that the capacity of major Chinese airlines is expected to increase by 24% year-on-year in the next five months, up to 76%. In the next five months, the number of seats on flights to and from China provided by Chinese airlines will account for about two-thirds of the total, up from 47% last year.
Li Hanming, a civil aviation industry insider, said that it is expected that about 60% of China's newly approved international flights will serve East Asia and Southeast Asia in the next five months. Chinese tourists generally prefer destinations such as Japan and Singapore due to their relatively low travel costs.
OAG data shows that Delta and United Airlines are expected to add more seats and flights on China routes from October this year to March next year. Delta's flight frequency is expected to increase by 40%, and United Airlines is expected to increase by 6%.
