Recently, the list of recipients of the "2026 New Era Youth Pioneer Award" awarded by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League and the All-China Youth Federation was announced, and Qiu Mengying, a post-00s female aircraft maintenance worker at the Engine Repair Center of the Power Plant Department of China Eastern Airlines, was among those selected.
Born in 2001, Qiu Mengying has won numerous honors, including first place in the civil aviation industry selection competition for the "Aircraft Maintenance" project of the National Vocational Skills Competition and the title of "National Civil Aviation Technical Expert." Since joining China Eastern Airlines in 2023, she has always maintained a sincere love for the civil aviation industry, shining brightly in her role as a guardian of the "heart" of aircraft with a spirit of craftsmanship that strives for excellence and a rigorous and pragmatic work attitude.
"Holding the regulations in hand with reverence, meticulously inspecting and repairing to safeguard the blue sky-every act of rigor is a guarantee of safety." This is Qiu Mengying's work motto, her daily guiding principle.
Beside the engine, clad in work clothes, she bends over, focused on her inspection, shouldering the heavy responsibility of aircraft engine maintenance and ensuring safe flight. People often ask her, "Aren't you afraid working in such an important position, you seemingly gentle girl?" To this, she replies, "I only have reverence for engine maintenance, not fear. As long as I follow the maintenance manual step by step, there's no need to be afraid."
When she first joined the company, a reminder from her mentor made Qiu Mengying understand the weight of aircraft maintenance work. Once, while installing engine parts, she quickly completed the installation and was secretly pleased with herself when her mentor noticed a small oversight. "Every part here holds the trust of passengers. We are not repairing machines, we are repairing the guarantee of lives." Her mentor's words resonated with her from that moment on. The principle of "read one, do one, sign one" became a mandatory course for every task she performed.
Diligent study and skill honing are the foundation of Qiu Mengying's growth and the source of her success. She consistently adheres to the principle of learning through competition and establishing herself through skills, continuously breaking through on the stage of skills competitions. In 2022, she won the third prize in the team competition of aircraft engine disassembly, assembly, debugging and maintenance in the higher vocational group of the National Vocational College Skills Competition, and the second prize in the BRICS Vocational Skills Competition, cultivating a rigorous and focused craftsman's spirit and a calm and composed mindset.
After joining China Eastern Airlines, she continued to refine her skills, repeatedly honing her practical abilities. In 2024, she won the bronze medal in the aircraft maintenance project at the Shanghai Selection Competition of the 3rd National Skills Competition. Subsequently, she won first place in the civil aviation industry selection competition for the "Aircraft Maintenance" project of the National Vocational Skills Competition. In September 2025, she won the Excellence Award in the National Vocational Skills Competition and was successfully selected for the Chinese training team for the 48th WorldSkills Competition, the only female contestant selected.
Upon her first appearance on the national stage, Qiu Mengying approached the Chinese training team with sincerity and humility. Faced with the relentless, high-intensity training day after day, and witnessing the unwavering dedication and extreme focus of her teammates who had persevered for many years, she once again deeply understood the purest professional belief of civil aviation workers-the craftsman's initial aspiration to dedicate one's life to a single pursuit.
"During training, I discovered that my teammates never stopped at just 'qualified.' They consistently refined their operations with self-discipline far exceeding assessment standards and industry norms, striving for perfection in every process. This ingrained rigor and meticulousness deeply inspired me and is the most valuable takeaway from this training."
In her daily work, Qiu Mengying not only strives for self-improvement but also enjoys sharing. She proactively imparts maintenance skills to her colleagues, motivating young employees to enhance their professional abilities. Within the team, she spearheads the study of maintenance skills, exchanges practical experiences, and fosters mutual learning and collaborative efforts among colleagues, uniting the youth's skills through practical cooperation.
As the May Fourth Youth Day approaches, she remains steadfast. Beneath her gentle appearance lies unwavering strength. She will continue to write the youthful vows of civil aviation youth in the new era amidst the roar of engines.
