Recently, photos of a Mahan Air Boeing 777-200 passenger plane catching fire after an airstrike have circulated on social media.
In late March of this year, Israel launched a fierce airstrike on Mashhad International Airport in northeastern Iran. The attack affected fuel depots and several parked aircraft. Initial reports indicate that at least two Mahan Air planes were damaged, including a Boeing 777-200 and an Airbus A340-600.
The photos show the Mahan Air Boeing 777-200 engulfed in flames, with fire trucks struggling to extinguish the blaze. The aircraft was ultimately completely destroyed by fire.

It is understood that the Boeing 777-200 aircraft, registration number EP-MTC, was 25 years old. It joined Mahan Air's fleet in December 2025 after a complex international acquisition process. At the time of its destruction, it had only been operating with Mahan Air for a little over three months.
Before the attack, the aircraft primarily operated routes between Iran and Shanghai and Beijing, China.
The aircraft's last flight was on March 29, 2026, the same day as the attack, from Shanghai to Mashhad.
