On June 26, 2026, Civil Aviation Resource Network reported that on June 24, 2026, Sanya Phoenix International Airport (hereinafter referred to as "Sanya Airport"), under Hainan Holdings, officially completed the overall upgrade and renovation of baggage claim carousels No. 4 and No. 5 for domestic arrivals.
The original No. 4 and No. 5 carousels, having been in use for many years, suffered from aging equipment and frequent malfunctions, which negatively impacted the passenger travel experience. To address the root causes of these operational pain points, the airport considered multiple dimensions, including equipment safety, maintenance costs, and passenger service, and initiated an upgrade and renovation project, replacing the original flat carousels with inclined carousels driven by belt friction. The upgraded carousels operate more smoothly and reliably, with lower noise, easier maintenance, and are more economical and environmentally friendly. Their design also better suits passengers' baggage collection habits, allowing them to easily retrieve their bags without excessive bending, making the baggage claim process more effortless and safer.
