U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg urged the 10 largest U.S. airlines to do more to help passengers stranded and affected by flight delays, Reuters reported on August 19. Buttigieg called the level of disruption to passengers this summer "unacceptable."

In a letter to the chief executives of major U.S. regional and low-cost airlines, Buttigieg said his department was considering new rules that would further expand airline passengers' rights. Buttigieg urged airlines to ensure adequate service for passengers facing flight delays and cancellations, requiring airlines to at least provide meal vouchers to passengers who are delayed for three hours or more.
