A record high! U.S. airline industry employment tops 800,000

 

Civil Aviation Resource Network News on August 14, 2023: According to Simpleflying news, the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) released the latest aviation industry employment report on August 11, and the statistics are valid as of August 7. BTS tracks the employment figures of cargo and passenger airlines and compares them with past years. The U.S. airline industry currently employs more than 800,000 people, including full-time and part-time workers employed by companies in the cargo and passenger industries, BTS said.

According to reports, the number of employees in the US aviation industry totaled 801,801, a record high, an increase of 1,992 from May this year, or an increase of 0.2%. Compared with the 743,370 in June 2019, there was an increase of 58,431, and the number of employees increased by 7.86%.

Among them, there are 525,000 employees employed by US passenger airlines, accounting for 66% of the entire industry. In June, the passenger aviation industry added 3,481 new employees. Since May 2021, employment in this industry has grown for the 26th consecutive month.

 

In the passenger airline industry, United led the way in hiring with 1,094 new employees in June. Delta followed suit, adding 965 workers, and American Airlines added 501 workers, rounding out the top three.

 

In June, American Cargo Airlines hired nearly 270,000 employees. However, American Cargo Airlines lost nearly 1,500 employees, and FedEx (FedEx) lost a total of 1,504 employees.
