Recently, Nanjing's "15th Five-Year Plan" outline was released, proposing efforts to promote the commissioning of the Liuhe Ma'an Airport as a national civil airport and strive to achieve cargo transportation capabilities. This means Nanjing is poised to become the next "dual-airport" city.

Furthermore, the "Nanjing Municipal Territorial Spatial Comprehensive Transportation Plan (2021-2035)" has also been approved by the Nanjing Municipal Government. According to this plan, Nanjing will construct a "one main, one auxiliary, and five general aviation airports" structure, with Lukou International Airport as the main airport and Ma'an Airport as the auxiliary airport. The plan focuses on enhancing the comprehensive transportation transfer capacity of Lukou International Airport and improving the supporting functions of Ma'an Airport.

Ma'an Airport is a joint military-civilian airport located in Liuhe District of Nanjing, primarily serving the Jiangbei New Area and northern cities of the metropolitan area. Construction of the civil runway at Ma'an Airport will commence in due course, opening civil aviation services.

Currently, my country has three cities with two airports: Beijing (Capital Airport + Daxing Airport), Shanghai (Pudong Airport + Hongqiao Airport), and Chengdu (Shuangliu Airport + Tianfu Airport).

According to the Ministry of Transport's 15th Five-Year Plan, new airports will be completed in Dalian and Xiamen, new airports will be built in Guangzhou and Nantong, and preliminary work will be carried out on new airports in Chongqing and Sanya.

This also means that Guangzhou, Nantong, and other cities will also become cities with two airports.

On March 25th, the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Guangzhou airport was held in Gaoming District, Foshan City. Located in Genghe Town, Gaoming District, Foshan City, the new Guangzhou airport represents a total investment of 41.8 billion yuan in its first phase, covering an area of approximately 1213 hectares. It is planned to have three runways and two terminals, with a 4E flight zone standard. It is scheduled to be completed and put into operation during the 15th Five-Year Plan period.

The new Nantong airport is planned to begin full-scale construction in 2027, with a total estimated investment of 50 billion yuan. The airport is located in Erjia Town, Tongzhou District, Nantong City, approximately 100 kilometers in a straight line from both Shanghai Hongqiao and Pudong airports. According to the plan, the first phase of the new Nantong airport will include two long-distance runways (the west runway is 4E standard, and the east runway is 4F standard), each 3600 meters long and spaced 2250 meters apart. The first phase of the terminal building will have an area of 520,000 square meters, with 80 near-gate stands and 38 remote-gate stands. The airport's near-term design target year is 2035, with a passenger throughput of 40 million and a cargo and mail throughput of 500,000 tons. The long-term plan is to reach a passenger throughput of 80 million.
