news-1-1

According to a statement from the airport, the incident occurred at 15:16 on October 23, 2026, at the domestic passenger security checkpoint in Concourse B of Suvarnabhumi Airport. A passenger, traveling with family and children, became involved in a dispute with security personnel while attempting to pass through the checkpoint with drinking water.

The airport stated that the passenger was carrying two bottles of drinking water and a child's water bottle. After staff explained the restrictions on carrying liquids-while also taking into account the need for water for the children during the journey-they permitted the passenger to take one bottle of water and the child's water bottle through security; the second bottle of water, however, was not allowed.

The airport explained that the screening of passengers and carry-on luggage prior to boarding is conducted in accordance with regulations set by the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand, which dictate specific conditions for the carriage of liquids, gels, and aerosols. Regarding food, milk, and drinking water for young children, staff are authorized to exercise discretion-within the framework of established security procedures-based on the actual needs of the journey. The statement did not disclose the specific capacity of the water bottles or the precise details of how the rules were applied in this instance.

Based on a review of surveillance footage and information provided by staff on duty, a verbal altercation broke out between the two parties during the discussion regarding the water, with both sides displaying heightened emotions. The airport's statement noted that the passenger asked the staff member, "Is there something wrong at home?"-a remark that escalated the tension-after which the staff member responded with an inappropriate action toward the passenger.

While the statement did not specify the exact nature of the staff member's action, it explicitly noted that the behavior fell short of the airport's established service standards. The airport emphasized that even in tense situations, staff have a responsibility to manage their emotions and treat passengers in a polite and appropriate manner.

The airport stated that the security service provider, Airports of Thailand Security Company, placed the employee in question on temporary leave effective October 29, pending the outcome of an investigation. The statement further indicated that if wrongdoing is confirmed, strict disciplinary action will be taken.

The airport has apologized to the passenger and has instructed frontline staff to prioritize emotional regulation, exercise patience and restraint, and maintain professional communication-avoiding arguments or direct confrontations with passengers-to ensure that such incidents do not recur. The airport stated that, while upholding aviation safety, it will ensure that passengers receive courteous, appropriate, and fair service.

As of the time this statement was issued, the airport had not yet announced the final conclusions of its investigation or any specific disciplinary decisions.
