Civil Aviation Resources Network, December 13, 2024: According to Reuters, Michael Whitaker, Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), plans to step down on January 20, 2025, the day Trump is sworn in as President.
In a letter to employees released by the FAA News Office, Michael Whitaker announced his decision to leave. Whitaker has been in office for more than a year, and his nomination as FAA Administrator was unanimously approved by the Senate in October 2023.

The FAA also said that Deputy Administrator Katie Thomson will step down on January 10, which means that Mark House, the agency's assistant administrator for finance and management, will serve as acting deputy administrator during the transition period.
"You have witnessed many changes in leadership, and during each transition, you have always ensured the stability and safety of air travel. This time is no exception," Whitaker said in a statement.
Whitaker told Reuters last week that he was not sure whether he would continue to stay after January 20 as communication with the transition team continued.
