On the same day, Macron visited the factory of aircraft equipment manufacturer Safran Group in Villaroche and announced an investment plan of 200 million euros. The funds will primarily be used to build a sustainable aviation fuel plant. Macron said the investment was expected to directly create about 700 jobs, including 100 at factories and 600 in recycling.

French President Macron: We are working hard, we have the ability to produce sustainable aviation fuel in our country in the next few years, around 2027 to 2030.

The aviation industry is considered one of the most difficult industries to achieve emission reductions. In 2021, the international aviation industry set a goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050, mainly through the widespread use of sustainable aviation fuel. But so far, this fuel accounts for only 0.1% of all aviation fuel consumption.

Sustainable aviation fuel is an alternative fuel made from renewable raw materials, including animal and vegetable oils, used cooking oil, municipal solid waste, etc. Compared with traditional aviation fuel, sustainable aviation fuel can reduce carbon emissions by up to about 80%. However, sustainable aviation fuel has not been mass-produced for many years due to high prices and limited availability of raw materials.
