Hong Kong tourism industry forecasts 600,000 mainland tourists for May Day holiday
News from Civil Aviation Resources Network on April 24, 2023: Hong Kong will receive 600,000 mainland Chinese tourists during the May Day holiday. Yang Shufen, director-general of the Hong Kong Tourism Industry Council, said that it is expected that during the May Day holiday from April 29 to May 3, Hong Kong will see an influx of about 600,000 mainland tourists.
Yang Shufen said that this figure is about 60% of the level before the epidemic. An average of about 100 to 200 tour groups are expected to visit Hong Kong every day during the holidays, a third of pre-pandemic levels.
Yang Shufen pointed out that the industry is short of manpower and the number of flights is less than before, and it will take time for the tourism industry to recover.
