Civil Aviation Resource Network November 6, 2022 News: According to Reuters, these environmentalists in white protective suits sat in front of the aircraft tires to prevent the plane from taking off. Commercial flights were not delayed by the demonstrations.
The demonstrations were launched by Greenpeace and Extinction Rebellion. They also held demonstrations in the area around Schiphol Airport that day.
Hundreds of other demonstrators held up signs reading "Limit flight activity" and "More trains" in and around the main concourse of the airport.
Environmental groups say Schiphol Airport is the largest source of carbon dioxide emissions in the Netherlands, with annual emissions reaching 12 billion kilograms. Schiphol Airport responded by saying they are committed to becoming a zero-emissions airport by 2030 and support the aviation industry in setting a goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
Citing air pollution and climate concerns, the Dutch government announced in June that it planned to cap the number of passengers at the airport at 440,000 a year, about 11 percent less than in 2019.
