Civil Aviation Resources Network reported on August 15, 2025: Regarding AirAsia X flight D7506's diversion to Gimpo International Airport due to severe weather at Incheon (Related Reading: Captain Confirms Arrival in Incheon, Only to See Gimpo Outside the Window! Passengers and Cabin Crew Are Bewildered), AirAsia issued the following statement on August 14:
AirAsia X (AAX) confirms that flight D7506 from Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to Incheon International Airport (ICN) landed safely at 10:54 PM on August 13. Due to air traffic congestion at Incheon Airport caused by severe weather, the flight had diverted to Gimpo International Airport (GMP) earlier that evening to refuel.
Safety is always our top priority. The captain's actions were in full compliance with standard operating procedures, including the initial announcement in English to inform passengers of the diversion arrangements. A miscommunication occurred during the cabin announcement during landing, which the captain subsequently clarified, explaining that the diversion to Gimpo Airport was due to severe weather and that the flight was refueling. The captain apologized to the passengers for the inconvenience caused and clarified that the landing at Gimpo Airport was solely for refueling, with the flight continuing to its original destination.
AirAsia X CEO Mr. Benyamin Ismail said, "This was an unforeseen situation caused by inclement weather in Incheon. Considering the potential for delays and the risk of landing with less than the required fuel level, the flight diverted to Gimpo International Airport for refueling. After completing all safety procedures, the aircraft then departed for Incheon International Airport, where the passengers disembarked."
"We will also review our internal announcements and onboard information sharing processes to ensure greater transparency in such situations. We thank our passengers for their understanding and cooperation during this operational adjustment, which is crucial to ensuring the safety of all on board. As a gesture of goodwill, AirAsia X (AAX) will be issuing travel vouchers and contacting affected passengers directly."
