Recently, the Airports Council International (ACI) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) released their 2025 global airport cargo volume rankings. Ezhou Huahu International Airport achieved a year-on-year growth rate of 32.4%, securing a "global first"-the fastest growth rate.

How did this achievement come about? What effective measures were taken behind the scenes?

Huahu Airport's speed is primarily reflected in its flight routes. In 2025, 35 new or increased cargo routes were launched, bringing the total number of routes to 111, covering 170 countries and regions worldwide. Particularly noteworthy is the "dual-hub" cooperation between Huahu Airport and Hong Kong International Airport, with one daily "daily arrival" flight, enabling rapid transshipment of high-value-added cargo.

Yue Bin, Deputy General Manager of the Enterprise Management Department of Hubei International Logistics Airport Co., Ltd., stated: "Through the 'two airports and one station' model, we have achieved seamless connection between Tianhe Airport and Huahu Airport, realizing a direct channel for high-value-added cargo."

With such a dense network of routes, where do the goods come from?

In April 2025, the China (Ezhou) Cross-border E-commerce Comprehensive Pilot Zone was approved. Within a year, 680 companies registered and signed agreements, achieving a trade volume exceeding US$460 million. More and more products made in Hubei and China are "flying" to the world through Huahu Airport.

To ensure goods "fly faster and land more stably," Huahu Airport has also established overseas branches. Milan, Abu Dhabi, Hanoi, and Addis Ababa-four overseas cargo terminals-have been unveiled. Shortly before the list was released, Africa's first overseas cargo terminal, in cooperation with Ethiopian Airlines, officially began operations, enabling rapid distribution of goods upon arrival.

Yue Bin, Deputy General Manager of the Enterprise Management Department of Hubei International Logistics Airport Co., Ltd., stated: "We will further expand our route network, improve our air cargo network to the Americas, Europe, RCEP countries, and Belt and Road Initiative countries, and accelerate the construction of 'Hubei on Air Routes,' following the principle of 'opening one route, serving one industry, and cultivating one ecosystem.'"
