On December 27, 2025, Civil Aviation Resource Network reported that Xi'an Airport's remote control tower officially entered the operational verification phase. This marks another significant milestone in the intelligent construction of Xi'an Airport's civil aviation infrastructure, signifying a new stage of digitalization and intelligence in apron control technology and injecting new momentum into the construction of a regional gateway and integrated international aviation hub. Construction of the Xi'an Airport remote control tower began in March 2024. It passed the expert review before operational verification on September 25, 2025, and received approval from the Northwest Regional Administration of Civil Aviation on December 15 to enter the operational verification phase. The remote control tower covers an area of 385 square meters, with a control hall accommodating 20 seats. It is equipped with a complete communication and information system, including VHF and electronic progress strips, capable of meeting the needs of apron control services for the next twenty years. Its overall construction scale and information integration level rank among the top in the country. The remote control tower's optical system utilizes advanced technologies such as high-definition cameras, video enhancement, and panoramic stitching to construct a comprehensive, blind-spot-free panoramic dynamic image of the airport, breaking through the limitations of the physical tower's field of view, especially advantageous in complex weather conditions. A highly integrated information system allows controllers to monitor airport surface activities, aircraft status, and weather changes in real time via high-resolution displays, creating a comprehensive "one-map" of airport operations covering parking stands, taxiways, and runways. The development and use of systems such as aircraft rollout sequencing and ground conflict early warning provide controllers with diverse decision-making tools, making ground operations safer and more efficient. To steadily and scientifically advance operational validation, Xi'an Airport Company established a special leadership team, and the Operations Control Center formulated a detailed implementation plan. The overall approach follows a three-step plan: "accompanied operation - monitored operation - validation command," conducting validation work from multiple dimensions, including equipment reliability, the interaction between personnel, equipment, and the environment, control command procedures, and emergency response procedures. Initially, validation command will be conducted during specific time periods and under conditions of low flight volume. In the medium term, the scope of application will be gradually expanded, ultimately achieving full operational capability. During the one-year validation period, the remote control tower will operate synchronously with the traditional apron tower to ensure absolute operational safety.
