According to Civil Aviation Resource Network on January 29, 2026, the 2026 Spring Festival travel rush will begin on February 2 and end on March 13, lasting 40 days. This year's Spring Festival holiday is nine days long, and passenger travel intentions are expected to increase significantly compared to previous years. To ensure smooth travel for passengers, China Southern Airlines plans to operate over 126,000 passenger flights during the Spring Festival travel rush (one round trip counts as two flights). Among these, approximately 13,000 extra flights will be operated on over 260 routes.

On domestic routes, in response to the new situation and characteristics of this year's Spring Festival travel rush, China Southern Airlines has made advance arrangements to strengthen capacity supply on popular domestic routes, planning to operate more than 109,000 flights on over 500 domestic routes during the Spring Festival travel period. For popular "ice and snow tourism" destinations such as Harbin, Changchun, Changbai Mountain, and Altay, China Southern Airlines has actively arranged additional flights to fully match market demand. Many passengers are also choosing Hainan for "winter escape" travel, and China Southern Airlines has increased capacity by increasing flight frequency and using larger aircraft. Wide-body aircraft will be used on some flights on routes between Shenzhen and Beijing Daxing and Haikou, as well as on some flights between Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Beijing Daxing, Changchun, Urumqi, and Xi'an and Sanya.

China Southern Airlines will operate its domestically produced C919 large passenger aircraft at its dual bases in Guangzhou and Changsha during the Spring Festival travel rush. It plans to regularly operate eight routes: Guangzhou to Xi'an, Wuhan, Changsha, Hangzhou, Ningbo, and Nanjing; and Changsha to Beijing Daxing and Shanghai Pudong, with an estimated total of over 1,000 flights. Meanwhile, the C909 aircraft will also operate over 5,000 flights on 60 domestic routes.

Regarding international and regional routes, China Southern plans to operate 16,000 flights during the Spring Festival travel rush. Benefiting from the extended Spring Festival holiday and the expansion of visa-free countries, outbound travel is booming, with Europe, Australia, Central and Western Asia, and Southeast Asia becoming popular destinations. The inbound tourism market, with the optimization of China's visa-free policy and the stable recovery of international flights, will attract more international tourists to China during the Spring Festival travel rush to experience the charm of traditional Chinese festival culture.

To meet the travel needs of domestic and international passengers, starting in December 2025, China Southern Airlines has successively launched new routes from Guangzhou to Madrid and Darwin, resumed routes from Guangzhou to Perth and Adelaide, and increased flights on routes from Guangzhou to Brisbane and Sydney. Among these, the number of round-trip flights per week on Australian routes reached 77 during the Spring Festival travel peak. During the Spring Festival travel period, China Southern Airlines will further increase the frequency of flights on routes from Guangzhou to Bangkok, Sabah, Kuala Lumpur, and Chiang Mai, from Shenzhen to Hanoi, and from Zhengzhou to Kuala Lumpur. The number of round-trip flights per week on Southeast Asian routes will exceed 500, providing passengers with more flexible travel options.

Regarding cargo logistics, China Southern Airlines Logistics has optimized capacity allocation, integrated land and air resources, and promoted regional festive atmosphere. Domestically, China Southern Airlines Logistics will open a "priority unloading, priority sorting, and priority pickup" green channel for fresh produce for the Spring Festival. Internationally, market demand is recovering, with a surge in exports of festive lanterns, Spring Festival gifts, and home furnishings. During the Spring Festival travel rush, China Southern Airlines Logistics plans to operate nearly 900 international cargo flights to help businesses optimize logistics costs and facilitate the global transport of festive goods.

During the Spring Festival travel rush, China Southern Airlines has launched a variety of travel service products to meet the increasingly diverse travel needs of passengers. For passengers traveling to visit relatives in the opposite direction, China Southern Airlines offers the "Family Express" service, which includes priority boarding and increased free baggage allowance. For families traveling together, China Southern Airlines offers the "Family Travel" service, supporting seniors and children traveling together. In addition, China Southern Airlines has also launched "Ice and Snow Tourism" and products for senior citizens, providing personalized services for passengers with different travel needs.

During the Spring Festival travel rush, China Southern Airlines will continue to optimize various services to facilitate passenger travel. The "Instant Boarding" service will be launched on all domestic flights at the Guangzhou hub, and the airport terminal navigation function will be integrated into the China Southern Airlines APP to further improve efficiency. Meanwhile, 115 self-service boarding gates will be deployed at 54 domestic boarding gates at the Guangzhou hub, allowing passengers to verify their identity using their ID card, passport, or boarding pass, improving boarding efficiency during peak periods. For wheelchair passengers, unaccompanied children, elderly passengers with special needs, and pregnant women, the "Warm Companionship" full-process service will be launched, providing one-stop services such as dedicated counters, check-in guidance, and waiting areas. Domestic flight manual check-in counters will open earlier at 04:00, and additional counters will be opened according to passenger flow to enhance self-service check-in and baggage drop-off guidance and reduce queuing time. At the Beijing hub, services such as "Easy Southbound Travel" winter clothing storage, "Family Travel" family services, and "Warm Sunshine Travel" senior citizen services will be offered to meet personalized needs and allow more passengers to enjoy a pleasant flight.

China Southern Airlines will also launch a series of "Kapok New Year" themed flight activities, carefully creating special cabin decorations for the Year of the Horse. Through Spring Festival activities such as writing Spring Festival couplets, cutting Spring Festival paper, and welcoming the God of Wealth, traditional New Year customs and good wishes will be conveyed at 10,000 meters altitude. This will fully integrate aviation features with traditional Chinese culture and bring passengers a unique Spring Festival travel experience in the clouds.
