On August 2, 2026, Civil Aviation Resource Network reported that, according to foreign media reports, authorities in Peru's Nazca province stated that a small tourist plane crashed over the Nazca Lines archaeological site in southern Peru on Saturday (August 1), killing 13 people.
The Peruvian Ministry of Commerce and Tourism stated in a statement that the plane was carrying 11 foreign tourists and two crew members.
Local authorities said the plane crashed in the Puebloviejo area, about 4 miles from Nazca city and about 7 miles from the Nazca Lines site.
The Cessna Caravan C-208 aircraft involved in the accident belonged to Peruvian airline Aerodiana and took off from Pisco Airport.
Aerodiana issued a statement expressing its deepest condolences and sympathies to the families and loved ones of the victims.
The company stated, "Throughout our 18 years of operation, we have always been firmly committed to the safety of our passengers and crew. Therefore, we are deeply saddened by this accident, and we are willing to fully and responsibly cooperate with any requests from the authorities."
According to police reports to local media, the accident occurred at 12:55 PM local time. The aircraft was on a sightseeing flight and preparing to return.
The aircraft caught fire after crashing, and firefighters and municipal police have been dispatched to the scene to extinguish the fire and conduct initial rescue operations.
The cause of the accident is currently unknown, and local authorities have stated that an investigation will be launched.
Aerodiana stated that it will assess its flight schedule "according to the instructions of the relevant authorities."
