Qatar Airways issued a statement on Tuesday to postpone the first flight of the world's longest route, Doha-Auckland, by two months.
Qatar Airways’ Doha-Auckland route is 14,539 kilometers long, takes between 17.5 and 18.5 hours, and is operated by Boeing 777. It was originally scheduled to make its first flight on December 3 this year.
After opening, it will replace the world's longest route currently operated by Emirates Airlines, Dubai-Auckland.
But judging from the current situation, Qatar Airways’ Boeing 777 aircraft will be used to fly routes performed by other A350 models.
According to information from airlineroute.net, the first flight of the world's longest route has been postponed to February 1, 2017. The channels for booking air tickets for December this year and January next year have been closed on Monday.
A spokesman for Qatar Airways said that they will try to minimize the inconvenience caused to passengers by the delay of the first flight and provide rebooking to meet customers' travel needs.
