Civil Aviation Resources Network, March 12, 2025: According to CCTV News, on March 11 local time, the National Transportation Safety Board of the United States made an urgent safety recommendation to prohibit helicopter flights when both runways at Washington Reagan Airport are used for inbound and outbound flights. The committee also hopes that the Federal Aviation Administration will designate an alternative helicopter route near Reagan Airport to cope with the partial closure of another route.
National Transportation Safety Board Chairman Homendy said that the committee is still concerned that there is a "high probability of future mid-air collisions" between helicopters and jets near Washington Reagan Airport. Homendy said that some helicopter flights near the airport "pose a risk to aviation safety."
In addition, Homendy will testify at a Senate Commerce hearing on March 27 about the collision between two aircraft near Washington Reagan National Airport.
