Violent attack on United Airlines flight: one passenger sent to hospital

Civil Aviation Resources Network, October 31, 2024: According to ABC News, a violent incident occurred on a United Airlines flight on October 28, local time, and a man attacked a sleeping passenger.
The FBI said that the incident occurred on a United Airlines flight from San Francisco, California to Dulles, Virginia. Passenger Everett Chad Nelson was sitting on 35F and got up to go to the bathroom about two hours after the flight took off.
On the way back to his seat after using the bathroom, he stopped at seat 12F and punched a sleeping man on the plane several times. Afterwards, blood splattered on the two people as well as the seats, windows and walls of the aircraft. The FBI said that the victim woke up with screams, and other passengers tried to intervene to stop it.
Court documents show that the sleeping passenger was violently beaten, resulting in bruises on his eye sockets and a cracked nose. The documents also stated that the victim did not fight back against Nelson. It is reported that the injured man is receiving treatment.
United Airlines said in a statement: "Thanks to the quick action of the crew and passengers, the violent passenger was controlled in time when one passenger attacked another." The statement also mentioned: "The flight landed safely and was met by medical staff and local law enforcement agencies." According to a statement from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), United Airlines Flight 2247 landed safely at Virginia Dulles International Airport in the afternoon local time after the crew reported a "flight disturbance." The accident is still under investigation.
