1. Dublin-Shanghai Direct Flight Expected
As Ireland increasingly becomes a popular tourist destination for Chinese tourists, a direct flight route between Dublin and Shanghai is expected to open. Irish Prime Minister Martin visited Shanghai on January 8, and both China and Ireland agreed to cooperate on opening a direct flight route between Shanghai and Dublin. Currently, Dublin, the capital of Ireland, has direct flights to Beijing, but Shanghai, with its modern skyscrapers and bustling shopping centers, is increasingly becoming a popular tourist destination.
2. Pakistan International Airlines to Resume Lahore-London Route After Six-Year Suspension
After a six-year hiatus, Pakistan International Airlines announced on Thursday that it will resume direct flights between Lahore and London starting March 30. In July 2025, the UK lifted its ban on Pakistan International Airlines flights imposed on the airline following the 2020 crash of a Pakistan International Airlines Airbus A320 in Karachi, which killed 97 people.
3. Turkish Airlines Launches $2.3 Billion New Investment Project
Turkish Airlines announced on Thursday that it held groundbreaking ceremonies for eight new facilities at multiple locations, with a total investment exceeding 100 billion lira ($2.32 billion). The main projects are located at its main base, Istanbul Airport. These projects include the construction of Europe's largest wide-body aircraft engine maintenance facility, the world's largest in-flight catering facility, the second phase of SmartIST (which will become the world's largest cargo terminal upon completion), additional aircraft maintenance hangars, and an e-commerce complex.
4. British Airways Cancels Hot Breakfast Service on Some Business Class Routes
From January 7, 2026, British Airways officially implemented a controversial new catering strategy for its short-haul business class Club Europe, canceling its signature hot breakfast service on eight of its most frequent routes, while quietly downgrading the catering standards of several European destinations to further cut costs.
5. Israel's Arkia Signs US Flight Transfer Agreement with JetBlue
Israel's Arkia Airlines announced on Tuesday a flight transfer agreement with US low-cost carrier JetBlue, allowing its customers to transfer to JetBlue's domestic US flights as well as flights to Latin America and the Caribbean. Arkia primarily operates domestic and European flights, but it launched the Tel Aviv-New York route a year ago, competing with El Al.
6. Antalya Airport in Turkey to Handle 39.16 Million Passengers in 2025
According to Anadolu Agency, official data from the Turkish National Airports Authority shows that Antalya Airport handled 39.16 million passengers last year. The authority said Thursday that the airport handled nearly 1.1 million passengers in December alone, including more than 500,000 domestic passengers and nearly 572,000 international passengers.
