On January 9, United Airlines flight UA888 from San Francisco to Beijing Capital International Airport made an emergency landing at Beijing Daxing International Airport due to weather conditions. According to a post on Xiaohongshu (a Chinese social media platform), a passenger on board the flight attempted to take off again due to strong winds before landing at Capital Airport, then diverted to Daxing Airport and was ultimately cancelled.
That same evening, the official Weibo account of Beijing Capital International Airport issued a statement saying that strong winds and wind shear had occurred in the airport area that night.
